Business in China

I visited some mid size companies and factories on my stay. The first week where companies and the second week was factories.

Companies: I visited around 6 companies the first week. With great expectation I went thinking we would be able to meet the management but to our surprise out of 6 only one the management level CEO met us, all the other 5 some junior level employee met us for namesake. I got offended as we traveled all the way from US for 18 hours to meet them and they did not show up. It was just a 2 hours meeting and just to meet us and say a “Hi” I am sure it would have taken them a 15 Minutes to half hour, why did they not show up? This question was bothering me a lot as I know they weren’t that busy for them not to show up.

Factories: My second week is of visits to like 3 factories. We where taken to the factories by the managers (agents) who speak and understand little English. The strange thing happened here was the owners ran off the office as soon as we stepped in each factories. This raised me the curiosity and I ended up asking the manager (agent) why this is happening.

I was told by the agent it has nothing to do with offending us or to ignore us but the fact is neither of the owners know English so they feel very bad when they are asked a question that they cannot answer or they do not want to sit quite in a meeting without understanding whats going on. This is the reason they try to avoid meeting when meeting foreigners. Sounded strange but it at least reduced me getting offended by this act.

If you decide to do business in China dont get offended by this act and also hire a good translator who could convey exactly what you say.

My Visit to China

Last month I visited China as a 2 week trip. I landed in Beijing with lot of hopes as it was my first trip. It was so beautiful when seen through the flight so i got out of the flight with much more expectations. Few things really caught my attention and I was really surprised to see it.

  1. The first thing which caught my attention was small flying particles flying in the air which was found all over Beijing to my surprise.
  2. I stayed there for a week and for the first 3 days I did not see the Sun. latter I came to know that we would be able to see the sun only if it rains and it happened on the fourth day morning and I was able to see the sun by afternoon and again the sun disappeared next day.
  3. I was told not to use the tap water to even brush the teeth but i felt little exaggerated about it and i did use it for couple of time but nothing happened. Some people who are allergic could face issues it seems which I was not.
  4. In the street or in restaurant it is hard to find a person who could understand “Left or Right” for direction or even “Water or Soft drink” in restaurant. A country which has captured the western style how come did not accept English?
  5. FaceBook is banned and it did not work.
  6. So many brand new beautiful buildings all over the place but when noticed almost 50% to 60% of this buildings are empty.

I loved that country as the people are good and had a great smile on their face but something is really wrong which need to be fixed. If it is fixed China would be a beauty of the world.

Gandhi’s Top 10 Fundamentals for Changing the World

1. Change yourself.

“You must be the change you want to see in the world.”

“As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world – that is the myth of the atomic age – as in being able to remake ourselves.”

2. You are in control.

“Nobody can hurt me without my permission.”

3. Forgive and let it go.

“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.”

“An eye for eye only ends up making the whole world blind.”

4. Without action you aren’t going anywhere.

“An ounce of practice is worth more than tons of preaching.”

5. Take care of this moment.

“I do not want to foresee the future. I am concerned with taking care of the present. God has given me no control over the moment following.”

6. Everyone is human.

“I claim to be a simple individual liable to err like any other fellow mortal. I own, however, that I have humility enough to confess my errors and to retrace my steps.”

“It is unwise to be too sure of one’s own wisdom. It is healthy to be reminded that the strongest might weaken and the wisest might err.”

7. Persist.

“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”

8. See the good in people and help them.

“I look only to the good qualities of men. Not being faultless myself, I won’t presume to probe into the faults of others.”

“Man becomes great exactly in the degree in which he works for the welfare of his fellow-men.”

“I suppose leadership at one time meant muscles; but today it means getting along with people.”

9. Be congruent, be authentic, be your true self.

“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”

“Always aim at complete harmony of thought and word and deed. Always aim at purifying your thoughts and everything will be well.”

10. Continue to grow and evolve.

”Constant development is the law of life, and a man who always tries to maintain his dogmas in order to appear consistent drives himself into a false position.”

The Backster Effect (How conscious are plants?)

The Backster Effect
(How conscious are plants?)

Late one night in 1966 Cleve Backster, a well-known American lie-detector examiner, was at his school for polygraph examiners. On impulse he decided to attach his Galvanometer to the leaf of a plant he had in his lab. He thought of burning a leaf on the plant but before he could do anything the tracing pattern on the graph changed dramatically. He hadn’t done anything yet. Had the plant sensed what he intended to do to it? When he didn’t intend to burn the plant but had a match in his hand and went through the actions as if he was going to the needle on the graph didn’t move. After many experiments Backster concluded that plants could actually discern real intent from pretend. He recorded the behavior of other plant species of plants and their reactions in many experiments. One of his experiments led him to discover plants have a memory. Not just a simple memory that allows them to remember the direction of their light sources. He also discovered sometimes plants go unconscious when threatened. This is only a small summary of his work. To read more about Backster and his experiments read the book “The Secret Life of Plants” which also has many other scientists accounts of the physical, emotional, and spiritual connections between plants and man.

Small Business owner

I used to be proud of being a small business owner in this country and always had a vision that one day I would be the best in what I do.

I run a small business which is active and produces enough income to support but for the past couple of year things have changed for me- Discouraged, confused and I move away from new ventures or no more interested in new ventures.

Our country needs small businesses to be active for different reasons.I have few questions running in my head.

  1. How did I get this feel in my head? is it Aging or Fear of loss?
  2. I see a pattern of lot of small business owners slowly giving up and looking for job.
  3. Once creator of job as a small business owner now looking for job. Is it good for the economy?
  4. Is there anything positive happening to keep small business owners be active in what they do and not get discouraged?

If I am right that small business owners are no more encouraged to do business then there is something wrong which government has to take it serious and not just focus on how to bail out big guys or go behind big companies and waste time.

Came to know about Horizontal drilling for natural gas which sounded very interesting as US holds the technology for it. Watched Movie 2012 coincidentally the same night. Hope this drilling doesn’t sink Houses & roads like in the movie.

My experience in buying a Dodge Durango

Few months back I wanted to change my SUV so I decided to buy a Durango. I went to a dealer next to 59South. I picked a car and also applied for credit. They took 2 weeks to put me in a vehicle and in the mean time I ended up choosing 3 different cars as the one which i picked usually got sold to someone else.

Twice they lost my application- First time the sales guy who took my application missplaced it somewhere after checking the credit, he lost the job and in the second time they literally lost it. For some reason my credit was put in hold by them so I wasn’t able to buy through some other dealer.

They made a fool of me that much when I was about to buy a car they raised the price saying it was not in sale anymore.

Is this something wrong with the sales person who was helping me to buy the car (or) the people who hired this people who where involved in this sale (or) the manufacturer who has approved this dealer to deal their car sale? As of today no one called me from Dodge manufacturer to see how my experience was in buying their car.

Two years back I bought a BMW where they handed the car to me as soon as I selected to use and send me home during the process of credit approval and had almost 3 followup calls to check how my experience was in buying their vehicle.

Price matters to provide this kind of service but price alone doesn’t decide how a customer need to be treated.
